Molluscs
By: Janelle Roswell
Molluscs is a robotic light art piece composed of several handmade jellyfish-like creatures, suspended from a structure at varying heights. Each creature encompasses microcontrollers and motors that allow the tentacles to move in natural, rhythmic sequences that fluctuate within the swarm. Taking inspiration from fluid movements found in nature and combining it with robotics, creative technologist Janelle Roswell works to explore the use of light and movement within a space to foster a sense of wonder.
Currently based in NYC, Janelle combines robotics and light to design installations that alter the ways people are willing to engage within spaces and with one another. Her work focuses on how the integration of creativity and technology can increase empathy, enhance human understanding, and completely redefine the lives we live by transforming spaces through innovative, fun, tech-based art. She holds a B.F.A in New Media from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, and is currently attending NYU's School of Engineering for her MSc in Integrated Design and Media.
