Light Brought to Life

October 7-9, 2021, nightly 6-11 PM

Illumination NYC’s mission is to unite people of all ages through light-based installations and technological wonders. The inaugural light festival, held as a visual beacon of hope and inspiration as we come out from a challenging period for New York City, will invite the public for their first experience in the newly opened Under the K Bridge Park.

Born in DUMBO, Brooklyn in the traditions of DUMBO Arts Festival, Illumination NYC aims to fill a void on the community cultural calendar by welcoming local artists and curating unique visual experiences to the neighboring public. In the spirit of Nuit Blanche and other successful night festivals, it intends to be appreciated after sundown.

Spanning two zones of the new Under the K Bridge Park, the festival will be free and open to all, while also following appropriate protocol and guidelines for public events in the era of COVID-19. The public will be welcomed via advanced (free) registration with timed entry, capping attendance to ensure appropriate social distancing. They will experience light installations and illuminated effects on a continued art walk that reflects this new innovative public space’s distinct features, including the architectural beauty of the bridge itself.

This inaugural event will present over 10 light-based installations and interactive experiences from world renowned artists such as Paolo Montiel, Rhizome Creative, Darrell Thorne and up & coming artists from NYU’s IDM (Integrated Digital Media) and ITP (Interactive Telecommunications Program) departments.

Illumination NYC’s founders and producing partners include veterans of previous light and outdoor art festivals, with prolific experience in visual arts and public events. The combined producing team is made up of NYC-based artists, producers, technicians, and community relations professionals.
